This painting is somewhat romantic despite its title. It is about a woman who has died and she is being mourned by a man who I assumed she once had a relationship with. This painting reminded me of my cousin who lost his wife, his love and the mother of his children just a year ago.
A work of art that shocked you. What? Why?
Try Me by: Sam Doyle
This picture shocked me because it’s a painting of a big woman who has her legs wide open with the caption “Try Me” on it. I thought the piece was hilarious.
Compare the Folk art gallery and the Contemporary gallery with the rest of the museum.
The folk art gallery was by far my favorite part of the museum. The pieces there were very crafty and colorful and they looked so handmade. I saw many things that were three- dimensional and that had lots of value. Now on the other hand, I didn’t really understand what contemporary art really was so I looked it up. Contemporary just means "art that has been and continues to be created during our lifetimes". In other words, contemporary to us. Still with that explanation, I’m still lost at how I feel about contemporary art.
Describe the part of your High museum experience that was most meaningful to you.
My visit to the High Museum was definitely an experience I enjoyed and would love to do again. I enjoyed myself the entire night because I brought my friends along to share this experience with me. The most meaningful part of my trip was EVERYTHING…lol. I felt like when I was there I was soaking up a little bit of history from every aspect of life. I loved the atmosphere. I loved the High!!!!

The MTV logo is an infamous piece of art that got its debut in the early 80s. You have seen it everywhere and its very recognizable no matter how many times its colors are changed (and boy have they changed). Even though we're in a new millennium it still remains funky and fresh. It an icon within an icon....lol. I love the 80s

This is my self portrait. I always imaged myself as the outside looking in because I wanted to know how do other people see me. This pic symbolizes me looking within myself seeing what others see of me.

Art and the human struggle

Everyday some is either infected or killed by the AIDS virus. Already, more than twenty-five million people around the world have died of AIDS-related diseases. In 2007, around 2.1 million men, women and children lost their lives. 33 million people around the world are now living with HIV, and most of these are likely to die over the next decade or so. The AIDS epidemic is a struggle many humans face daily. Whether you have the virus or not AIDS is sure to effect you at some point in life.

Art and human nature

How can we define what is good and what is evil? How can one tell whether a person is good or evil? What came first good or evil? These questions have lurked in our mind until the end of time but where do we "humans" find the answer? The scriptures of the world's religions provide a variety of answers to these questions.

One example of this is Matthew 7: 18-20 which states:

18 “A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, nor can a bad tree produce good fruit. 19 “Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 “So then, you will know them by their fruits.

This passages define good and evil by their fruits. A good person or a good deed bears good fruits; and an evil person or an evil deed produces evil fruits. From the fruits, the person's heart and sincerity can be known.

Art and the human condition

The human condition encompasses all of the experience of being human. I chose to express the condition of being intimate. Today, the word intimacy has taken on sexual connotations. But it is much more than that. It includes all the different dimensions of our lives -- yes, the physical, but also the social, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects as well. Intimacy really means total life sharing. And haven't we all had the desire at one time or another for closeness, for oneness, for sharing our life with someone totally?

Why I believe this film is a work of art

This pass week I saw the movie Slumdog Millionarie and I was truly impressed. I must admit I wasn't really hyped about seeing it when it first came out but once it won "Picture of the Year" I had to see what all the hype was about. It is a wonderful film on so many levels: a rags to riches tale, a story of India's class and religious conflicts and its growth as a society, an adventure, a love story...It's a modern Dickens novel par excellence. I also must admit it felt good to see some new, fresh faces. Slumdog Millionaire was nominated for ten Academy Awards in 2009 and won eight, the most for any film of 2008.

My Favorite Artist

My favorite artist is a tattoo artist by the name of Ami James, but I'm sure you all have heard of him because he has his own show on TLC called "Miami Ink. " Ami began tattooing when he was 20-years-old, and though he started by working out of his home, he soon got involved in an apprentice program. To say Ami is a little feisty would be an understatement. He is known for a quick temper and a razor sharp tongue, and he's not afraid to voice his opinion and this may include if he feels your tattoo design is not all it should be. I admire his art work and I can't wait to get a tattoo done by the one and only Ami James.

My Right Brain Is Bigger Than My Left!!!!

I am a right brain thinker and applier. My strengths always lied within the world of hands on experiences, symbols, colors, creativity, seminars, public presentations and the list goes on.
While my brain mainly focuses in its right brain mode I sometimes catch myself being a left brain thinker, but this rarely happens. I'm the type of person to never read instuctions because I rather figure things out on my own. I don't really care if things are perfect to the "T". I have a very nonsalant attitude because I don't take life that serious. I have to multitask while I'm doing assigments.

Fashion as Art!!!!

Fashion design is the applied art dedicated to clothing and lifestyle accessories created within the cultural and social influences of a specific time. Fashion design is generally considered to have started in the 19th century with Charles Frederick Worth who was the first designer to have his label sewn into the garments that he created. While all articles of clothing from any time period are studied by academics as costume design, only clothing created after 1858 could be considered as fashion design.

Ballet (DANCE)

Ballet is a formalized type of performative dance. The early ballet dancers were not as highly skilled as they are now. It has since become a highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary. It is primarily performed with the accompaniment of classical music. It has been influential as a form of dance globally and is taught in ballet schools around the world, which use their own cultures and societies to inform the art. Ballet dance works (ballets) are choreographed, and also include mime, acting, and are set to music (usually orchestral but occasionally vocal).

I love this piece of architecture (The Great Pyramids)

The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest and largest of the three pyramids and is the only remaining member of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Great Pyramid was the tallest man-made structure in the world for over 3,800 years. Originally the Great Pyramid was covered by casing stones that formed a smooth outer surface, and what is seen today is the underlying core structure. Some of the casing stones that once covered the structure can still be seen around the base. There have been varying scientific and alternative theories regarding the Great Pyramid's construction techniques. Most accepted construction theories are based on the idea that it was built by moving huge stones from a quarry and dragging and lifting them into place.

Diorama Drama!!!

My diorama faces the issue of discouragement (which I like to call " SIMPLY HATING"). I think people who discourage or hate on others are just unsatisfied with themselves, therefore, they have to pick on someone else to make themselves feel better. I put the crime scene in the background because "hating" is a crime that should be avoided at all cost (that's also why I put up caution tape). The smiling face and crying eyes shows the action being done and the consequence to the action. However, I depends on how you look at it.

A TRIP TO THE HIGH!!!!

Last month I went to the High Museum to see the The First Emperor: China's Terracotta Army Exhibit and I had a blast. This was my second time going to the High and after this experience it's definitely something I would like to do again, and very soon!!! The atmosphere was really nice. There was food, fun music, lots of young people (which figures because I went on college) and basically a great opportunity for me to spend time with my friends who also came with me.

The First Emperor: China's Terracotta Army is inspired by one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. The exhibition includes complete terracotta warrior figures and represents one of the most important groups of works relating to the First Emperor ever to be loaned to the U.S.

WHAT'S UP!!!

Hey guys my blog is a little dry so I decided to post something about me. Well I'm 19 yrs old, a student at the University of West Georgia and my major is Mass Communication. I'm short, funny, out-going, soft spoken at times, and I'm just basically a really down to Earth kinda girl. I'm a new brother of Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Buisness Fraternity and I love AKPsi to death. I have one sibling, a brother, and we're very close even though he ALWAYS gets on my nerves. I'm pretty much a very laid-back person. I'm passionate and proud and I stand very firmly on issues I believe in. I'm also unrelentless and driven and I work very hard when I have to. While not an angry person by nature, I can be hot-tempered when things aren't going my way.
